Based on ICA’s policy, the child’s name is an important symbol of his identity and his relationship with his parents. Hence, both parents should sign the Deed Poll for their child save for exceptions.
The exceptions are where the other parent has died and has not appointed a guardian for the child, or a parent is the sole parent as stated in the child’s birth certificate, or the Court has granted a parent power to unilaterally change his/her child’s particulars. Relevant declaration form and documentary evidence must be furnished to ICA.
