Do I need a Deed Poll if I am changing only my name in ethnic characters?

Based on current ICA’s policy, the short answer is “No”. According to ICA, change of ethnic characters only, eg. Chinese characters in Singapore pink and blue identity cards/NRICS do not require a Deed Poll. For example, you are a Chinese and is changing your name in ethnic characters from 王慧 to 王慧 without change in your name in English, then no Deed Poll is required. However, please take note that change in ethnic characters must be consistent with the applicant’s race.
